Our Class Novels

Upcoming Class Novels;

In the Summer term we will be reading another classic by the Irish author Eoin Colfer - The Legend of Captain Crow’s Teeth, comparing this with The Legend of Spud Murphy.

We will also be reading a classic by Anthony Browne -  The Tunnel. This will be read as part of a narrative writing unit in which we will use it as a stimulus for writing.

We will then finish the term by voting for an old classic. Will it be Winnie the Pooh? Will it be Paddington Bear? Or will it be The lion, the witch and the wardrobe?

You’ll have to wait and see!

Our Class novel for Spring 2, as voted for by the children is. . .

The Legend of Podkin One-Ear written by Kieran Larwood

A thick white blanket covers the wide slopes of the band of hills known as the Razorback Downs . . .

Podkin is the son of a warrior chieftain. He knows that one day it will be up to him to lead his warren and guard it in times of danger. But for now, he's quite happy to laze around annoying his older sister Paz, and playing with his baby brother Pook. Then Podkin's home is brutally attacked, and the young rabbits are forced to flee. The terrifying Gorm are on the rampage, and no one and nowhere is safe. With danger all around them, Podkin must protect his family, uncover his destiny, and attempt to defeat the most horrifying enemy rabbitkind has ever known.

Spud Murphy

 Eoin Colfer

Will and Marty are horrified when their parents decide to find them something educational to do during the holidays, condemning them to three afternoons a week at the library.

How will they cope when they meet the librarian, the legendary Spud Murphy, for the first time? And will she use the gas-powered spud gun she keeps under her desk? When Marty steps off the small patch of carpet in the children's section for the first time, the consequences are entirely unexpected…

Dave Pigeon

Bookshop Mayhem

Dave Pigeon and his sidekick Skipper are looking for stories and biscuits. Where better to look than a bookshop? But booksellers aren't so sure about welcoming pigeons . . . if only they spoke pigeonese. Dave and Skipper create well-meaning chaos around the shop, with hilarious results. A warm, funny and joyful romp that celebrates books, bookshops, booksellers and biscuits!

What do Class 3 think about our Autumn 2 novel so far?

Anansi

The Trickster Spider

In Autumn 1 the children enjoyed stories about Anansi the Trickster Spider by Lynne Garner

The stories featured in this book introduce Anansi the Spider, a traditional African trickster character. Anansi is as clever as he is lazy and he loves to prove just how smart he is by tricking the people of the village and the animals of the jungle. Luckily Anansi is not always as clever as he likes to think he is. Sometimes everything backfires on him and he becomes the victim of his own tricks.

We throughly enjoyed listening to the some of the stories from this fantastic book, including;

- Anansi & the moss covered rock

- Anansi & the witch named 5

- Anansi & the gum doll

- Why Anansi stayed on the ceiling

- Anansi & the Tommy
