We are a group of parents who voluntarily give their time
and best ideas to help raise funds for the school. The HSA has been running
alongside the school for many years and we rely on new blood to ensure ideas
are fresh and interesting and the whole school is engaged in what we do.
What type of fund
raising do we do?
Anything that the committee want to do! This has included
holding special events such as a race night for parents and carers, a school
disco for the children, or the popular end of year family bike ride.
Alternatively we have run a stall or two at the School summer fayre and other
local events as well as holding the odd raffle.
Do we do anything
Most of our efforts are directed at fund raising but we do
have time for other things such as selling 2nd hand uniform
utilising donations from parents and carers as well as anything that’s left in
the lost property box at the end of the year! We have also held competitions
for the children at Easter donating a few prizes along the way.
How do we spend the
We liaise with school to decide on an appropriate project
for the coming year. In recent times we have provided a movable stage for the
school hall so that the children’s assemblies or school productions can be
played out on a real stage. We have also provided a new sound system for the
school hall to again enhance the experience for the children and parents alike
when the children demonstrate their work or talents. Our funds assisted with
the purchase of a school reading programme and more recently new laptops for an
additional class. The need is endless hence the need for an active HSA!
What are the
opportunities for helping?
We rely on volunteers and people join for many different
reasons. Here are some from the current active members; “I joined because…”
“… my son was too shy to participate in the school discos.
With me helping out, he quickly got over his inhibitions and is now active in
most of the schools events.”
“… I wanted to meet new people in the school and local
“… I can’t volunteer my time during school hours and want to
be involved in the school’s programme. The HSA helps me to feel part of things
but also help in a tangible way.”
Apart from the regular active members we also encourage and
welcome parents and carers who volunteer on a per event basis. Many decide to
help out because they are at the particular event and may as well ‘muck in’
than sit watching! Many can’t commit to a regular time and so help as and when
time allows. The HSA is flexible and open to all. New ideas are also very
